The recent visit to a traditional ruler in the North-east geo-political zone by the First Lady, Sen Remi Tinubu, where a governor (names withheld) only paid N10 million from the monetary gift of N50 million meant for the royal father, has set tongues wagging. According to highly placed sources, the First Lady, after being conferred with a traditional title, doled out a hefty cash donation of N50 million to the monarch.
However, state government officials carted the bags of money to the state capital and ordered the emir to report to the state capital to collect the money.
“During a recent visit by the First Lady to the state, she was so delighted and offered a cash gift of N50 million to the monarch, but aides of the governor in attendance immediately took the money to the state capital and ordered the traditional ruler to come the following day and collect the gift.
“On arrival at the Government House, the royal father was given N10 million and told by the governor that it was a gift from the First Lady. The traditional ruler thanked the governor and left happily,” a source privy to the incident told our reporter.
A few days after the visit, a member of the National Assembly (names withheld) who hails from the area phoned to express appreciation for the cash donation.
“Sen Remi Tinubu was shocked when she was informed that the monarch was only given 20 percent of the cash gift. She immediately called the governor and ordered him to return the balance of N40 million to the emir without wasting time.
“The angry governor is not happy and has sworn to deal with the Rep member who spilled the beans, including frustrating the Rep’s comeback in 2027,” the source further revealed.
